VOLUNTEERING

People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some, it offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others, it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites them all is that they find it both challenging and rewarding.

Join our vibrant network of campaigners and fundraisers who help raise money to save lives and campaign to speak out against injustice. You'll be part of a team of letter writers, project organizers, climate change marchers, bucket shakers, petition signers and fundraisers.

We need volunteers across a wide range of areas across the charity. Sometimes a post will require a specialist skill, sometimes it will simply need someone who has heaps of enthusiasm. There are lots of areas that could benefit from your time and experience within the many departments.

In August 2012-April 2013, 29% of adults in England said that they had formally volunteered at least once a month in the previous year, and 44% said that they had volunteered at least once in that year. This equates to an estimate of 12.7 million people volunteering in England once a month, and 19.2 million once a year.1 If the survey results are applied to the wider UK population as a whole, this would produce an estimate of 15.2 million people volunteering at least once a month in the UK, and 23.1 million volunteering at least once a year.UK Civil Society Almanac 2014
